Excellent material for aerospace applications - PEEK

High-performance PEEK is a very hard, wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant thermoplastic material, PEEK material characteristics include high strength, high hardness and heat resistance, it provides very light strength, very suitable for weight and strength are very important aerospace and other applications, PEEK characteristics make it suitable for extreme environment of advanced aerospace materials. And components for electronics, bearings and turbomachinery.

In addition, PEEK's thermal properties make it an excellent material for aerospace applications, with its low thermal conductivity and high melting point, allowing it to resist the effects of extreme temperatures. It also has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, less dimensional variation compared to metal parts, and its materials find applications in aerospace because they are lighter than metal, can achieve faster speeds, lower fuel consumption, larger payloads, and exploration vehicles can stay in space longer, PEEK has a number of characteristics that make it an ideal aerospace material:

Mechanical property

PEEK has high mechanical strength (over a wide temperature range), high fracture toughness and resistance to particle impact. Even at high temperatures, it has high bending strength, extremely high fracture toughness and resistance to solid particle erosion. This makes the material extremely durable.

Thermal performance

PEEK is ideal for high temperature applications. It is one of the few integral ceramic materials that can withstand the intense thermal shock and thermal gradients produced by hydrogen/oxygen rocket engines, and PEEK also exhibits unusually low thermal conductivity, a useful characteristic for designers working on high-temperature applications such as missile thrusters. It also has a high melting point and the ability to maintain performance at high temperatures.

Dielectric property

PEEK's low dielectric loss makes it a promising aerospace material for antenna Windows and high-speed missile radomes, nose cones, radio Windows, etc. Because metals reflect radio waves, plastic is used where it needs to be transmitted, and the lower the dielectric constant, the better the transmission, is that these other metals cannot match the high temperature performance.

PEEK for aerospace applications

Due to its highly elastic material properties, PEEK is used to manufacture high-temperature components in a variety of industries. As an aerospace material, PEEK is an ideal material for manufacturing traditional aircraft components such as bearings, and its dielectric properties also make it an ideal material for manufacturing radomes (protective covers that protect antenna components of radar devices), especially for aircraft. Crucially, the radome is made of materials that minimize the attenuation of signals transmitted or received by the antenna, enabling unobstructed communication, PEEK in space technology, in addition to being used in missile radomes, PEEK is also used in the manufacture of missile thrusters and spacecraft thrusters.

Other applications of PEEK as an aerospace material include brakes, bearings and other wear resistant components, and because of its strength, wear resistance and shock resistance compared to other ceramics, PEEK is used in high-performance ball bearings in aerospace and aerospace. PEEK bearings are used on the mainframes of NASA's space shuttles, and because PEEK ball bearings are harder than metal, there is less contact with the bearing track, which reduces friction, increases speed, and extends overall service life. Compared with traditional metal bearings, ceramic ball bearings also have higher corrosion resistance and higher operating temperatures.
